Speedskating is the Formula 1 of skating, skaters taking corners with 40 km per uur, competing side by side. The riders have only one goal: to get over the finish line before the others.
It looks simple, but in reality there is a lot going on in speedskating. Sponsored teams compete with each other, just as in cycling they cooperate, if one team member breaks away, the others at the head of the group will try and slow the pace.
De national Dutch track races on the Jaap Eden track will be spectacular. There will be the 300 meter sprint, the drop-out race and the 1.000 meter. Many well-known Dutch skaters from the A-group will be present, but also expect skaters from Belgium, Australia and the U.S. to give all they've got! If you want to learn how to speedskate yourself then you can het lessons and of course we've also thought of all you long distance skaters out there: there's a nice long distance tour set up around the perimeter of Amsterdam.
